Case Study: How Swedavia Attracts and Retains Talent

The state-owned company Swedavia owns, operates, and develops ten airports in Sweden, from Kiruna in the north to Malmö in the south. This network of airports not only connects places in Sweden, but acts as Sweden’s gateway to the world. Swedavia was formed in 2010 and in 2015 alone, 37.6 million passengers travelled to and from the company’s airports. The company employs more than 3,300 people and turned over SEK 5,416 million in 2015.

Swedavia’s employees are spread the length and breadth of Sweden, so it was difficult to maintain a cohesive corporate culture and communicate as one employer. Swedavia wanted to make communication easier and make every employee feel equally involved, regardless of where he or she worked.  It was agreed that administration needed to be smoother and that employee benefits needed to be made more visible. After all, Swedavia operates in a competitive market and has to stand out as an attractive employer if it is to attract and retain the best talent available.
